  41. I've got two Kenwood TM-241A 2m transceivers.  I've had one for several
  42. years now and use it regularly for AM receive.  I'm happy with it.  I just
  43. bought another one and it can barely pick up anything on AM.  The two rigs
  44. definitely have two different sensitivity levels when it comes to AM.  FM
  45. works fine on both rigs.  Has anyone else experienced this type of problem?

  90. A friend of mine had one recently and had trouble keying a linear with the 
  91. keying output. He had to increase the drive into the keying output xistor
  92. to sink current over about a milliamp. Has anyone else had this problem?

  135. well... i'm in the midst of this too... and the old units used 110vac
  136. instead of the current 24vdc... so your receiver may also need a
  137. 24 v supply.
  138. i just bought a genie trans/recv set at Home Depot ($36?) ... but they
  139. didn't stock the power supply.
  140. if you dial 1-800-ok-genie  they'll supply the name/number of local
  141.  nuts-and-bolts vendors of these things.  one i tried said it was $50
  142.  for the trans/recvr set, plus about $24 for the power supply.

  145. colors/functions.

  170. They actuall make a special drill bit for mounting the NMO antenna 
  171. mount.  Check with the local Motorola MSO they should have one.  You 
  172. might be able to get them to pop the hole in the roof.  Other wise use a 
  173. 3/4" chassis punch or pick up a "Unibit" these are available in a 3/8" 
  174. shaft.  They start at about 1/4" diamater and progress in steps to 3/4"

  186. Harold, sri I can not see your internet address, hence I can
  187. not reply directly.  The Saber has PC programming software.
  188. It also requires a Motorola interface for PC to radio.  This
  189. interface can be used for many of the Motorola radios/repeaters
  190. etc.  The software / interface are not "freebies" from Motorola.
  191. Also, considering the cost of the Saber -  that seems a strange
  192. choice for a ham rig, and it only covers one band and proably not
  193. on the ham band without a MOD of some type.  Do you have that MOD?

  257. Uh, OM... have you ever USED an HTX-202?  Evidentally not, judging from
  258. your comment.

  260. The 202 is a pretty good ham-band-only radio.  Don't buy one if you want
  261. to listen to cops or paramedics or airplanes, because it won't tune out of
  262. the ham bands, either on purpose or accidentally.  The receiver is tight,
  263. to cut down on out-of-band images and other problems that make a lot of
  264. the wide-band receive HTs sound real bad in metro areas.  Using my
  265. two-year old 202 in downtown
  266. Fort Worth (I don't work for Tandy, BTW), I don't hear a lot of the
  267. intermod and images, that I DO hear when using my Kenwood dual-band mobile
  268. radio, and both of 'em are hooked up to good mobile antennas.

  270. As for the plastic case, suffice it to say that complaint is nonsense.  I
  271. can't think of an HT made with a metal case, today, and probably wouldn't
  272. want to lug it around, if I could.  My 202 has been handled quite
  273. realistically (pardon
  274. the pun! <g>), and still has no dents or gouges, and only one small scratch
  275. (from falling off the roof of the car at about 15mph - but that's another
  276. story).

  278. The audio on the 202 seems to me to be quite sufficient, louder than that of
  279. my Icom u4AT.  The transmit audio, being true-FM, has been complemented
  280. more than once (the deviation was right at 3.8 kHz when I put it on a
  281. monitor after I got it ).

  283. I'm happy with my 202, and I paid more for it than $239.  And though I
  284. also got the extended warranty, the regular warranty period is long since
  285. over, and I've yet to have to worry about getting it serviced, because
  286. it's never needed it.  And, if my XYL can drag it around the country on
  287. her business trips and not break it, I consider one FB rig.

  289. Again, the warning: don't buy the 202 if you want to receive or transmit
  290. outside of the 2 meter ham band. Not CAP. Not MARS. It won't do it.  This
  291. is a ham band radio, designed by hams, for hams, and I think they did a
  292. pretty good job of it.

  359. Commonly believed, but not true.  The HTX-202 is made in Korea, by a firm
  360. that's not known for producing other amateur gear.  The only Icom-ism is
  361. the fact that the HTX-202 and 440 brother will accept the larger Icom
